Job Description:
We are seeking a Water Resource Geologist to join our hydrogeology and environmental assessment team in Hamburg. In this role, you will be responsible for studying the geological factors that influence water availability, distribution, and quality. Your work will directly contribute to the planning, management, and conservation of groundwater and surface water resources for municipal, industrial, and agricultural purposes.
Key responsibilities include conducting geologic and hydrologic field studies, analyzing aquifer properties, and developing conceptual and numerical models of groundwater systems. You will also assess potential sites for well development, advise on sustainable groundwater extraction, and support water quality monitoring programs.
This position involves collaboration with engineers, hydrologists, environmental consultants, and government agencies to evaluate environmental impacts and design water resource management strategies. You will also prepare technical reports, regulatory documents, and environmental assessments in line with German and EU directives.
Job Requirement:
Candidates must have a bachelor’s or master’s degree in Geology, Hydrogeology, Earth Sciences, or a closely related field. A minimum of 3–5 years of experience in water resource geology or groundwater-related projects is required.
Applicants should have experience in aquifer characterization, groundwater sampling, borehole logging, and data interpretation. Proficiency with hydrogeological modeling tools (e.g., MODFLOW, GMS), GIS applications (e.g., ArcGIS, QGIS), and geochemical analysis software is essential.
Strong knowledge of geological mapping, soil-water interactions, and contaminant transport processes is also necessary. Familiarity with EU Water Framework Directive and German water management regulations is highly desirable.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required for technical reporting and stakeholder presentations. Fluency in English is mandatory, and proficiency in German is considered an asset.
Applicants must be comfortable with fieldwork in diverse environments and capable of working both independently and within interdisciplinary teams. A valid driver’s license and willingness to travel regionally for field assignments are also expected.
