Job Description:
The Ceramics Kiln Technician is responsible for managing the operation, maintenance, and monitoring of kilns used in the production of ceramic goods. This includes preparing kilns for firing, loading and unloading ceramic ware, adjusting firing schedules, and ensuring that temperature profiles are consistent with product requirements. The technician works closely with production staff to ensure that raw and glazed ceramic products are correctly placed and adequately spaced to prevent damage during firing. Duties also include inspecting kiln bricks and insulation, conducting preventive maintenance, and recording kiln temperatures, cycles, and any anomalies. The role requires a deep understanding of ceramic materials, thermal processes, and safety standards. A Ceramics Kiln Technician plays an essential part in ensuring that finished ceramic products meet structural and aesthetic quality standards.
Job Requirement:
High school diploma or technical training in ceramics, material science, or a related field
Minimum of 2 years of experience operating and maintaining kilns in a production environment
In-depth knowledge of firing schedules, glaze behavior, and temperature control
Ability to read and interpret technical data sheets and firing curves
Experience with electric, gas, and tunnel kilns
Familiarity with temperature monitoring tools and kiln controllers
Good physical stamina for handling ceramic materials and operating in high-heat environments
Strong attention to detail and an understanding of ceramic product defects
Preventive maintenance skills for insulation, elements, and thermocouples
Commitment to safety protocols, especially when working with high-temperature equipment
