Job Description:
The Fiber Optic Cable Installer is responsible for laying, splicing, and maintaining fiber optic cables used in utility communications, including smart grids and utility control networks. This work ensures high-speed data transmission between substations, utility control centers, and automated devices.
Tasks include route planning, trenching, conduit installation, cable pulling, fusion splicing, connector installation, and testing using optical time-domain reflectometers (OTDR). Installers must also inspect signal quality, perform repairs, and document cable paths and test results.
Job Requirement:
A diploma in telecommunications or networking is required. Certification in fiber optic installation (such as FOA or ETA) is preferred. Experience in cabling infrastructure projects, especially within utility networks, is advantageous.
Candidates must be proficient in fiber splicing, loss testing, termination techniques, and color-coding standards. Physical stamina, ability to work at heights or underground, and adherence to cabling codes and safety rules are essential.
