Job Description:

The Architectural Glass Technician in Wellington is responsible for the precise handling, fitting, and finishing of specialized architectural glass in both interior and exterior applications. This includes glass walls, balustrades, stair panels, partitions, shower enclosures, and custom glazing features. The technician will work with toughened, laminated, low-emissivity, and decorative glass products, ensuring accurate measurement, cutting (if required), edge finishing, and secure installation. Duties involve interpreting architectural details, selecting appropriate fixings and adhesives, and ensuring seamless alignment with framing or hardware systems. The role may also involve on-site troubleshooting, handling bespoke or oversized panes, and applying sealants, trims, or anti-shatter films. Safety during transport, handling, and lifting is paramount. Technicians must be adept at working in environments where visual perfection and precision are critical, such as high-end commercial lobbies, hospitality spaces, or premium residential interiors. This role requires craftsmanship, technical knowledge, and close collaboration with designers, glaziers, and installers.

Job Requirement:

A background in glass handling or a glazing-related trade certificate is required, with at least 3 years of experience in architectural or custom glazing. Candidates should be skilled in measuring, aligning, and safely installing various types of glass. Familiarity with architectural specifications, safety glass standards, and handling techniques is essential. Physical fitness, attention to detail, and comfort with working on ladders or scaffolds are also needed. Experience with silicone sealing, UV bonding, and working with proprietary glass systems is beneficial.
