This technician is responsible for monitoring temperature consistency, material texture, and mat alignment during the laying process. They work closely with machine operators and paver operators to ensure the asphalt is spread at the correct thickness and slope, without segregation or air pockets. The role includes measuring depth and width, checking for smoothness using straightedges and profilometers, and assisting in correcting irregularities before the asphalt sets. The technician is also responsible for quality assurance testing, such as core sampling and density checks. Their expertise contributes to long-lasting road surfaces and supports Wellington’s infrastructure development by ensuring projects meet strict municipal specifications. Collaboration with engineers, safety officers, and road crews is frequent, as is documentation of results and coordination with asphalt supply logistics.
