Job Description:

The Asphalt Finishing Roller Technician in Hamilton is responsible for operating finishing rollers to ensure the final smoothness, seal, and compaction of freshly laid asphalt surfaces. This role occurs at the end of the paving process and is crucial for delivering roads that are both durable and visually consistent. The technician operates steel-drum or pneumatic finishing rollers, managing temperature-sensitive passes to seal surface pores, eliminate roller marks, and enhance density. Before each shift, the operator checks for hydraulic function, drum moisture systems, and vibratory settings. During work, they coordinate precisely with the paving and breakdown rolling teams to begin passes while the mix is still workable. The technician must monitor for mat finish, edge straightness, and potential surface cracking, making adjustments as needed. In Hamilton’s expanding urban and regional transport networks, their contribution ensures high-quality, long-lasting road surfaces. Equipment maintenance, end-of-day cleaning, and reporting any surface defects are also part of this critical role.

Job Requirement:

Candidates must have experience operating asphalt finishing rollers and be familiar with mat smoothness standards, vibration frequency control, and timing techniques. A strong eye for surface details, adherence to safety standards, and physical endurance are important. The role requires a heavy vehicle license and the ability to work extended shifts in outdoor conditions.
