Job Description:
The Concrete Block Paver is responsible for laying concrete blocks or interlocking pavers to construct durable and level surfaces such as walkways, driveways, patios, and public spaces across Dunedin. Duties include interpreting layout drawings, measuring and marking alignment lines, preparing sub-base layers, placing sand beds, and carefully installing blocks in defined patterns. The paver must ensure tight spacing, accurate levelling, and minimal shifting of blocks, followed by compaction using plate compactors. Other tasks involve cutting blocks to fit edges, applying jointing sand or sealant, and cleaning the finished surface. The role requires knowledge of drainage slopes, paver types, and proper compaction techniques. Pavers may work alongside civil contractors, landscapers, and other trades on both public infrastructure and private development projects. This is a physically demanding, detail-oriented role ideal for individuals skilled in outdoor construction and surface finishing.
Job Requirement:
Candidates should have vocational training or hands-on experience in paving, masonry, or landscaping, with 2–3 years of direct experience in laying concrete blocks or pavers. Key skills include surface preparation, leveling, cutting pavers, and safe tool usage. Physical strength, accuracy in measurements, and an eye for alignment and finish quality are critical. Familiarity with compaction techniques and working under varying weather and site conditions is also important.
