Job Description:
The Lead Surface Stripping Specialist is responsible for the safe removal of lead-based paints and coatings from walls, ceilings, doors, metal structures, and other surfaces in buildings undergoing renovation or demolition across Dunedin. This role requires preparing containment zones, setting up ventilation systems, using chemical strippers, sanding tools, or heat guns under strict safety protocols, and collecting waste for safe disposal. The specialist conducts initial assessments, ensures surfaces are fully stripped and ready for repainting or treatment, and verifies that residual lead dust or particles are eliminated from the site. Constant use of PPE, adherence to air quality monitoring, and decontamination of tools and personnel are crucial. The role often involves working in older heritage buildings or schools where compliance with health regulations is non-negotiable. This position suits detail-oriented individuals trained in environmental remediation who can carry out high-risk work precisely and responsibly.
Job Requirement:
Applicants must hold valid certification in lead abatement or hazardous material removal, with at least 2 years of experience in stripping or environmental remediation. A thorough understanding of lead hazards, safe removal practices, and containment setup is critical. Candidates should be physically fit, capable of wearing full protective gear, and familiar with using specialized stripping tools. Strong attention to detail, knowledge of disposal laws, and the ability to work in confined or occupied buildings are essential for success in this role.
