Job Description:
The Well Drilling Technician in Wellington specializes in drilling and constructing water wells, geothermal wells, or monitoring wells for domestic, agricultural, or industrial applications. Working under the direction of a site engineer or drilling supervisor, the technician assists with rig setup, drilling pipe connections, mud circulation, borehole measurement, and casing installation. They ensure the borehole is drilled to the correct depth and diameter, prepare the well for pump installation, and conduct flushing and test pumping as needed. The technician monitors pressure levels, water returns, and ground stability while managing on-site materials and coordinating safety protocols. Wellington’s terrain and demand for sustainable water and energy resources require the technician to operate in a range of environments including coastal zones, hillsides, and rural fields. Daily maintenance of tools, hoses, and safety gear is part of the role, along with accurate recordkeeping of borehole data.
Job Requirement:
Candidates must have experience in water or geothermal well drilling and a strong understanding of drilling methods, casing installation, and pump setup. A heavy vehicle or drilling license, physical strength, and the ability to work in remote or off-grid locations are essential. Knowledge of safety procedures, groundwater protection rules, and basic mechanical troubleshooting is required.
