The Lactation Support Worker plays a vital role in enhancing milk productivity and animal health within dairy farming operations. This position focuses on providing hands-on care to lactating livestock, particularly dairy cows and goats, and ensuring optimal milking practices in accordance with animal welfare and hygiene standards. The role involves monitoring animal behavior for signs of mastitis, stress, or reduced milk output, and assisting in the implementation of nutritional and veterinary protocols to support sustained lactation.
Daily tasks include milking operations (manual or mechanical), sanitization of equipment, recordkeeping of milk yields, and coordination with farm veterinarians and nutritionists. The worker also supports breeding and calving routines to ensure a steady lactation cycle. Understanding and applying biosecurity measures is crucial.
The position may involve early mornings, physical labor, and exposure to farm environments. Candidates will work under the supervision of the Dairy Farm Manager and contribute to the farm’s productivity and animal well-being.
