Job Description:
The Apparel Inventory Clerk is responsible for accurately tracking, recording, and managing inventory levels of garments within a retail, warehouse, or production setting. This role ensures that all clothing items are properly documented from the point of arrival through storage and distribution, supporting smooth operations and effective stock control. The clerk serves as the backbone of inventory integrity, helping prevent overstock, shortages, and losses.
Key responsibilities include logging incoming and outgoing garments, updating stock records using inventory management software, conducting regular physical inventory counts, and reconciling discrepancies. The clerk prepares stock reports for supervisors and assists in ordering processes based on current inventory levels and sales forecasts. In retail environments, the clerk may also tag garments, update display quantities, and assist with restocking shelves or racks.
In a production environment, the clerk coordinates with warehouse, procurement, and production teams to ensure timely allocation of materials and finished goods. Accuracy and attention to detail are critical, especially when handling large inventories across multiple product lines, sizes, and SKUs. The role may also require the identification of slow-moving items and support for promotions or markdown planning.
Job Requirement:
A high school diploma or equivalent is required; a diploma in business administration, logistics, or supply chain management is an asset. Experience in inventory control, preferably in apparel or textile industries, is highly preferred. Candidates must be proficient in using inventory software or ERP systems, spreadsheets, and barcode scanners. Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and basic math skills are essential. The role requires the ability to work independently or in a team, communicate clearly in English, and handle physical tasks such as lifting or counting stock during inventory checks. Familiarity with garment categories and sizing is a plus.
