Job Description:
The Cloth Laying Technician in Dubai is responsible for preparing and spreading fabric layers accurately in preparation for cutting, an essential stage in the apparel production process. The technician ensures that multiple layers of fabric are aligned, tension-free, and ready for efficient cutting, whether for bulk production or custom garment manufacturing. This role directly impacts material utilization, cutting accuracy, and overall workflow efficiency.
Daily responsibilities include examining fabric rolls for flaws, aligning fabric grainlines according to markers or patterns, and spreading layers using manual or automated spreading machines. The technician ensures there are no wrinkles, creases, or fabric tension issues. They follow markers that guide the placement and orientation of each fabric layer, checking for consistency across the entire lay length.
Technicians must verify the correct fabric type, width, and shade batch against production orders, documenting any irregularities before processing. They calculate lay lengths, number of plies required, and track fabric usage to minimize waste. The technician marks layups with guidelines, notches, and bundle tickets to support downstream cutting and sewing operations.
This role requires close coordination with pattern cutters and quality assurance staff to maintain layout accuracy. Equipment maintenance, including regular cleaning of laying tables and spreaders, is also part of the technician’s duties. Adherence to health and safety standards—especially around sharp tools and heavy rolls—is mandatory.
The Cloth Laying Technician must be attentive, physically capable of handling large fabric rolls, and methodical in approach to meet production timelines without compromising quality.
Job Requirement:
Candidates should have a diploma or vocational training in apparel production or textile handling, with 2–3 years of experience in fabric laying or garment manufacturing. A good understanding of fabric properties, manual and machine laying methods, attention to detail, and ability to follow technical markers are essential. Physical strength, organizational skills, and teamwork are critical for success in this role.
