Job Description:
The Directional Drilling Engineer in Dubai specializes in planning and executing complex directional and horizontal drilling operations to optimize oil and gas well placement. Working closely with geologists, reservoir engineers, and drilling teams, the engineer designs well trajectories that maximize reservoir contact while avoiding geological hazards and minimizing costs. This involves selecting appropriate drilling tools, mud programs, and surveying technologies to maintain precise borehole control.
The engineer continuously monitors drilling parameters and adjusts drilling plans in real-time to respond to downhole conditions such as formation pressure, torque, and drill string vibrations. They interpret data from measurement-while-drilling (MWD) and logging-while-drilling (LWD) tools to ensure directional targets are met and to optimize drilling efficiency. Collaboration with rig personnel and vendors is essential for the proper setup and maintenance of directional drilling equipment.
Safety, environmental compliance, and regulatory adherence are critical components of the role, requiring the engineer to implement risk mitigation strategies and ensure all operations meet industry standards. The Directional Drilling Engineer also prepares detailed technical reports, cost estimates, and post-drilling evaluations to guide future projects.
This position demands strong analytical skills, proficiency with directional drilling software (e.g., Compass, WellPlan), and the ability to manage multiple stakeholders in high-pressure environments.
Job Requirement:
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Petroleum Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
Experience: At least 4 years of experience in directional drilling design and operations, preferably with offshore and onshore experience.
Skills: Expertise in directional drilling tools, MWD/LWD technologies, well trajectory planning, and drilling software; strong problem-solving and communication skills.
Other Requirements: Ability to work in remote or field locations with extended hours; commitment to safety and environmental regulations.
