Job Description:
The Drilling Site Geologist in Abu Dhabi is a critical field-based professional responsible for analyzing subsurface geological formations encountered during drilling operations. This role supports the exploration and production of hydrocarbons by providing real-time geological interpretations that guide drilling decisions and well planning.
Key responsibilities include examining and describing drill cuttings, core samples, and mud logs to identify rock types, hydrocarbon shows, and formation boundaries. The geologist monitors drilling progress and maintains constant communication with drilling engineers, mud loggers, and geosteering teams to ensure well trajectory aligns with reservoir targets.
The Drilling Site Geologist also prepares comprehensive geological reports, logs, and stratigraphic columns, and contributes to optimizing drilling operations by identifying potential hazards like over-pressured zones or unstable formations. This position demands strong observational skills, quick decision-making in high-pressure environments, and proficiency in geological software tools.
Fieldwork is a major component of this role, often requiring rotation-based or offshore assignments under demanding environmental conditions.
Job Requirement:
Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Geology, Geosciences, or Earth Sciences.
Experience: 3–6 years of experience in wellsite geology, preferably in oil and gas exploration or development projects.
Skills: Proficient in mud logging interpretation, stratigraphic correlation, and geological software (e.g., GeoFrame, Petrel); strong report writing and team collaboration.
Other Requirements: Willingness to work in remote or offshore locations on rotational shifts, understanding of HSE protocols, and excellent communication skills.
