Job Description:

The Electric Network Planning Specialist in Abu Dhabi plays a strategic role in the long-term development and optimization of electric power transmission and distribution networks. This position involves comprehensive planning activities that ensure the safe, reliable, and cost-effective delivery of electricity to meet the region’s growing energy demands, while accommodating evolving technologies like renewable energy, smart metering, and electric vehicles.

Core responsibilities include conducting feasibility studies, load forecasting, and network simulations to identify future grid requirements. The specialist prepares master plans for infrastructure development, identifies potential bottlenecks or overloads, and proposes network reinforcement or expansion strategies. They work extensively with modeling tools such as PSS®E, DIgSILENT PowerFactory, and GIS-based planning software to assess load flow, short-circuit levels, system stability, and voltage regulation.

This role requires close collaboration with utility companies, regulatory authorities, consultants, and internal engineering teams to coordinate planning inputs, ensure compliance with Abu Dhabi’s energy policies and regulations (e.g., ADDC, DoE), and evaluate the technical and financial viability of network investments.

Additionally, the Electric Network Planning Specialist participates in integrating distributed energy resources (DER), renewable power plants, and smart grid features into the electrical infrastructure, maintaining operational reliability while supporting sustainability goals. They also prepare technical reports, investment proposals, and policy recommendations to aid decision-making at a strategic level.

Job Requirement:

Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical or Power Systems Engineering.

Experience: Minimum 5–8 years of experience in power network planning or utility grid analysis.

Skills: Strong command of grid modeling software (e.g., DIgSILENT, PSS®E), network simulation, and strategic infrastructure planning.

Other Requirements: Familiarity with UAE energy codes and policy frameworks, excellent analytical and reporting skills, and the ability to work with multi-stakeholder teams.
