Job Description: A Wellsite Geologist in the Energy & Utilities industry is responsible for providing geological support and analysis during drilling operations. They work at the wellsite and collaborate with drilling teams to monitor and interpret subsurface rock formations, assess drilling progress, and provide geological recommendations. Key Responsibilities: Geological Analysis: Monitor and analyze the geological formations encountered during drilling operations. Identify and interpret rock types, lithology, and stratigraphy to understand subsurface conditions and potential hydrocarbon reservoirs. Logging and Sampling: Perform wellsite logging activities, including the collection and description of drill cuttings and core samples. Record detailed geological data, such as depth, lithology, and mineralogy, for further analysis and reporting. Formation Evaluation: Use logging tools and techniques to evaluate formation properties, such as porosity, permeability, and hydrocarbon content. Assist in the identification of potential reservoir zones and provide input on drilling targets. Data Interpretation: Interpret drilling data, well logs, and other geological information to assess the performance and productivity of the well. Monitor drilling parameters and identify any potential hazards or geotechnical issues. Geological Reports: Prepare accurate and comprehensive geological reports and well logs. Communicate findings, observations, and recommendations to the drilling team, geologists, and other stakeholders. Collaboration: Work closely with drilling engineers, geoscientists, and other team members to optimize drilling operations and ensure efficient wellbore placement. Provide geological expertise and support to aid decision-making. Risk Assessment and Mitigation: Identify potential geological risks, such as unstable formations, faults, or pressure differentials. Collaborate with the team to develop risk assessment strategies and mitigation plans. Well Planning: Contribute to well planning activities, including selecting drilling locations, determining casing and cementing programs, and optimizing drilling parameters based on geological information. Health, Safety, and Environmental Compliance: Adhere to health, safety, and environmental regulations and practices at the wellsite. Participate in safety meetings, hazard assessments, and incident reporting as required. Continuous Learning: Stay updated with the latest geological and drilling technologies, techniques, and industry trends. Participate in training programs and professional development activities to enhance skills and knowledge.
Job Requirement: Requirements: Bachelor's degree or higher in Geology, Geosciences, or a related field. Previous experience working as a Wellsite Geologist or in a similar role in the oil and gas industry. Strong knowledge of geological concepts, formation evaluation techniques, and well logging tools. Familiarity with drilling operations and procedures. Proficiency in geological software and applications used for data interpretation and analysis. Excellent observation and data collection skills. Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities. Effective communication and collaboration skills. Ability to work in remote and challenging environments for extended periods. Attention to detail and accuracy in reporting. Adherence to health, safety, and environmental protocols. Ability to adapt to changing project requirements and work under pressure.
