Job Description:
A Blast Hole Driller is tasked with drilling holes into rock formations to prepare for the placement of explosives used in mining operations. Working in coordination with geologists and engineers, the driller ensures that holes are accurately positioned, drilled to precise depths, and conform to the blast design specifications. Operating a range of hydraulic and rotary drilling equipment, the driller is responsible for daily maintenance, lubrication, and calibration of the machinery.
Drillers are expected to maintain detailed logs of depth, geology, and equipment performance. They must monitor bit wear, pressure gauges, and fluid levels to prevent breakdowns or dangerous incidents. Safety is a critical aspect, and blast hole drillers must be thoroughly familiar with explosive handling, ground stability assessments, and emergency response protocols.
Job Requirement:
High school diploma or GED required; technical certification in drilling or explosives handling preferred.
At least 2 years of experience operating blast hole drilling machinery.
Understanding of rock and soil mechanics, drill pattern layout, and detonation techniques.
Mechanical ability to perform regular servicing and minor repairs.
Must be certified in explosive safety handling and possess knowledge of blasting laws.
Physically fit and capable of working in remote, dusty environments.
Ability to work independently under strict deadlines and in high-risk zones.
Excellent attention to detail and communication skills.
