Job Description:
A Deep Borehole Driller specializes in drilling deep vertical or angled holes for exploration, monitoring, or extraction purposes in mining operations. These holes can range from hundreds to thousands of meters and may be used to locate ore bodies, monitor groundwater, or enable in-situ leaching techniques.
The driller must set up and calibrate drilling rigs, select appropriate drill bits, and manage drilling fluid systems. They monitor torque, penetration rate, and core recovery, making adjustments to maximize efficiency while minimizing tool wear and geological disturbance. The role also includes logging data, maintaining equipment, and ensuring environmental compliance.
Safety and precision are critical, as drilling to extreme depths increases the likelihood of encountering unexpected conditions, including pressurized zones, gas pockets, or unstable formations.
Job Requirement:
Certification in borehole drilling or geotechnical engineering.
Extensive experience in deep-hole or geotechnical drilling.
Familiarity with wireline, rotary, and diamond drilling systems.
Understanding of drilling fluid chemistry and pressure management.
Ability to operate hydraulic and automated drilling rigs.
Skilled in data logging and basic geological sample interpretation.
High level of physical stamina and tolerance for remote work.
Knowledge of environmental management and containment protocols.
Mechanical ability to maintain and repair rig components.
Commitment to safe drilling practices and proper PPE use.
