Job Description:
The Core Sample Drilling Technician operates core drilling rigs to extract cylindrical rock samples (core) from underground formations. These samples are used for geological analysis and play a vital role in mineral exploration and mine planning.
The technician ensures drilling follows precise angles and depths outlined in exploration plans, recovers intact cores, and stores them securely for transport. They monitor drilling progress, manage drill fluid circulation, and maintain records of sample depth and orientation.
Equipment maintenance, tool calibration, and rig assembly/disassembly are also part of the job. The technician must work closely with geologists to ensure sample integrity, especially when drilling in difficult formations.
Job Requirement:
Certification in drilling operations or mining technology.
Experience with core drilling techniques and equipment.
Familiarity with geotechnical sampling protocols and logging methods.
Mechanical skills to troubleshoot and maintain drill rigs.
Ability to operate safely in remote and harsh environments.
Keen eye for detail and commitment to preserving sample quality.
Understanding of borehole stability and environmental precautions.
Good communication and teamwork abilities.
Ability to lift and handle heavy core boxes.
Knowledge of PPE and occupational safety in exploration drilling.
